Weather Station Software
Some of our weather stations come with a built-in connection for using
weather data on your home computer. This connection lets you send live weather
data to your computer when it is connected, or retrieve weather information
stored in the weather stations internal memory.
With accurate weather data in
your computer, you can create plots to show long term trends or analyze the data
to help predict crop yields. Using software that comes with the weather station
or other programs downloaded from the Internet, you can send local weather
updates by e-mail or publish weather information on your website.
The weather stations which can be connected to a computer are:
Getting Connected
The weather stations connect to an RS-232 serial port on your computer
using a cable supplied with the station. Most computers have a
suitable RS-232 serial port built in. Usually found on the back of your
computer it looks like this:
A standard serial port has 9 pins: 5 in the top row and 4 in the bottom row.
Some modern computers and laptops do not include a serial port.
These invariably have a USB port and you can buy a serial port
adaptor that plugs into the serial port from most computer stores
in this case. BestBuy, for example, have one
here.
A USB port typically looks like this:
Many computers have two USB ports stacked one on top of the other. If your
computer doesn't have a serial port, you can purchase an adaptor that
plugs into one of the USB ports.
