The WS-2315 has been discontinued by La Crosse Technology. Please consider the WS-2310TWC instead, which has similar features to the WS-2315.

La Crosse Technology's WS-2315 Pro Weather Center brings a local weather forecast to your desk.

Outdoor sensors measure temperature, humidity, rainfall, wind speed and wind direction. Setup of these sensors is easy because no cables are required: the weather sensors send information using a wireless radio link. For a more permanent installation, the sensors can be connected by a single cable to the base station. Sensors built into the base measure indoor temperature, humidity and pressure.

The base station, displays key weather information on a large backlit display. Large icons prominently display the Weather Center’s forecast for local weather. Alarms can be set to alert you to special weather conditions. Collect data for further analysis, publishing to the internet or a permanent record using the built-in PC connection.

The base station uses 3 type “AA” batteries or the included AC adapter. Battery operation offers a convenient backup during power outages ensuring uninterrupted weather monitoring. Batteries will last about 1 year when sensor data is sent wirelessly, or about 6 months when a cable connection is used. The base station supplies power to the sensors when a cable connection is used. The base station includes a memory backup system used to store user-defined settings when the batteries are changed or during power failure.

The base station measures: 6.1" x 6.3" x 1.2" (15.5cm x 16cm x 3cm).

In Comparison

This WS-2315 Weather Center is very similar to the WS-2310TWC Weather Station using the same weather sensors and offering the same measurements. The main difference between the two is the styling. The WS-2310TWC Weather Station has a brushed aluminium finish while the WS-2315 has a cherry wood style finish. The WS-2315 hides the infrequently needed settings buttons behind a flip-down cover for a simpler look, while all the buttons are to the right of the display panel for the WS-2310TWC Weather Station for quick acccess.

If your main interest is a weather forecast and temperature measurements, you could consider the WS-8035 Wireless Forecast Station with Pressure History . The WS-8035 does not measure rainfall or wind information, but it still provides a local weather forecast.

If you are only interested in temperature or humidity measurements, you might like the WS-9029 Wireless Weather Station . The WS-9029 measures indoor temperature, outdoor temperature and indoor humidity.

The Wireless Vantage Pro2 collects a similar set of weather measurements to this WS-2315, but it can display more than 100 graphs of these measurements right on the display, uses 10 weather variables when forecasting the weather and, with optional sensors, can measure several other weather variables including solar radiation and evapotranspiration. The Vantage Pro2 does not include a built-in PC connection like the WS-2315, but one can be added with an optional datalogger. A wired Vantage Pro2 , which uses cables instead of a wireless link between the sensor and base station is also available.

Pressure and Forecasting

Forecast graphics Atmospheric pressure is the basis for predicting weather . The WS-2315 weather station provides you with a forecast for the next 12 to 24 hours using clear graphics that are easy to understand while also displaying the current air pressure. Both absolute pressure and pressure relative to sea-level (typically published in newspapers) can be displayed.

Atmospheric pressure can be displayed in hecto-Pascals (hPa) or inches of mercury (inHg). The highest and lowest pressure, along with the date and time, are recorded. Also, as for other measurements, the Weather Center can sound an alarm if the pressure reaches a preset minimum or maximum value.

The WS-2315 Weather Center displays an arrow prominently on the display indicating increasing or decreasing pressure trends. Generally, when pressure is increasing, good weather is on its way while decreasing pressure heralds poorer weather.

Sensors

The WS-2315 Weather Center includes all the sensors you need for comprehensive weather measurements. Outdoor measurements are made by three separate modules: a rain sensor, a wind sensor and a temperature/ humidity sensor. The sensors are separate so you can install them in the best location for each measurement.

The temperature/ humidity sensor transmits all the measurements to the base station. Included cables, up to 32 feet (10m) long, connect it to the rain and wind sensors.

The weather data is sent from the temperature/ humidity sensor to the base station wirelessly, using radio waves, or through a cable. The wireless range is about 80 feet (25m) if no obstacles are in the way. Obstacles such as trees, walls and windows will reduce the range a little bit.

Batteries in the temperature/ humidity sensor supply power for the radio transmitter and the rain and wind sensors. If the temperature/ humidity sensor is connected to the base station with a cable, you don't need batteries in the sensor module; all power will be supplied by the base station.

Wireless Outdoor Thermo-Hygro Sensor

Temperature and humidity are measured with the Thermo-Hygro sensor. This sensor is also the hub for the other outdoor sensors transmitting all measurements to the base station. The Thermo-hygro sensor should be installed out of direct sunlight; under the eaves of your house, for example.
  • Temperature range: -21.8°F to 157.8°F (-30°C to 70°C)
  • Temperature resolution: 0.2°F
  • Humidity range: 20% to 95%
  • Humidity resolution: 1%
  • Dimensions: 5.5" x 2.75" x 2.5" (14cm x 7cm x 6.5cm)
  • Data transmission interval with cable connection: 8 seconds
  • Data transmission interval with wireless connection: 32 seconds if wind speed is greater than 22 mph, 128 seconds if wind speed is less than 22 mph.

Wind Sensor

Wind speed and direction are measured with an anemometer and weather vane built into one compact sensor. The sensor is connected to the Thermo-Hygro hub with a cable that can be up to 32 feet (10m) long. When installing the wind sensor, ensure it is not sheltered by trees or buildings.
  • Wind-speed range: 0 to 111.8 mph (0 to 180 km/h)
  • Wind-speed resolution: 0.1 mph
  • Dimensions: 8" x 10" x 2.5" (20.3 cm x 25.4cm x 6.5cm)

Rain Sensor

A tipping bucket mechanism automatically empties the rain sensor as it measures each droplet of rain. The sensor is connected to the Thermo-Hygro hub with a cable that can be up to 32 feet (10m) long. Instal the rain sensor away from shelter by trees or buildings; on the roof of your house, for example.
  • Rainfall resolution: 0.004" (0.1 mm)
  • Dimensions: 5.5" x 5.75" x 2.5" (14cm x 14.6cm x 6.5cm)

Temperature, Humidity, Dew Point and Wind Chill

Indoor and outdoor temperature and relative humidity are accurately measured by the WS-2315 Weather Center. Wind chill and dew point temperatures are calculated from the windspeed and outdoor humidity, respectively, and outdoor temperature. The minimum and maximum values for all measurements are recorded by the Weather Center, along with the date and time they occured.

The WS-2315 weather center can sound an alarm if any temperature or humidity reading passes a value you've set. These alarms can be used to warn of frost danger to sensitive plants or water tanks, for example. A simple way to avoid expensive or time consuming maintenance.

  • Indoor temperature range: 14.2°F to 139.8°F (-9.9 to 59.9°C).
  • Outdoor temperature range: -21.8°F to 157.8°F (-29.9 to 69.9°C)
  • Temperature resolution: 0.2°F (0.1°F)
  • Humidity range (indoor & outdoor): 20 to 95%
  • Humidity resolution: 1%

Wind

Wind display for the WS-2315 The WS-2315 Weather Center will measure wind speed and wind direction in many different units. You can select measurements in meters per second (m/s), knots, Beaufort wind force scale, kilometers per hour (km/h) or miles per hour (mph). A graphical compass indicates where the wind is coming from. The WS-2315 can be set to sound an alarm if the wind speed reaches preset minimum or maximum values or when the wind is coming from a selected direction: handy to warn of bad weather, hurricanes or tornadoes.

Rainfall

By monitoring rainfall, you can ensure adequate watering for your garden and irrigation for crops. When water is such a precious resource in many locations, this is a great way to contribute to water savings without compromising your garden's health.

Rainfall is reported for three different periods by the WS-2315 Weather Center: the last hour, the last 24 hours, and the total amount of rain since the counter was last reset. The counter can be reset at any time.

Your Weather Station will also record the time and date for the 1 hour and 24 hour period that saw the most rain. It will also record the largest total amount of rain fall seen. The Weather Center can also warn of flood danger by sounding an alarm if rainfall exceeds some value you've set. You can have different alarm thresholds for rain falling in the 1 hour and 24 hour periods. Set to a very low value, the 1 hour alarm can be a useful warning that rain has started falling.

Weather Alarms and Storm Warning

The WS-2315 Weather Center can be set to sound an alarm when a weather observation, such as temperature for example, reaches a programmed value. For each weather observation you can set high and low triggers for the alarm. The Weather Center recognizes the sudden air pressure drop that usually accompanies a storm and can sound an alarm if this happens. The alarm triggers you can customize are:

  1. Outdoor humidity; high and low alarms
  2. Outdoor temperature; high and low alarms
  3. Dew point; high and low alarm
  4. Indoor humidity; high and low alarms
  5. Indoor temperature; high and low alarms
  6. Rainfall for previous 24 hours; high alarm
  7. Rainfall for previous hour; high alarm
  8. Wind chill; high and low alarm
  9. Atmospheric pressure; high and low alarms
  10. Wind speed; high and low alarms
  11. Wind direction alarm

Time and Date

Do you find it a hassle to set clocks for daylight savings? Or, are you wondering which clock has the correct time?

Time and date on the WS-2315 Weather Center can be set automatically by a radio broadcast from near Fort Collins in Colorado. This precise time broadcast ensures the WS-2315 Weather Center will always show the correct time, adjusting automatically for daylight savings time.

Time can be displayed in 12 or 24 hour format and you can set the time and date manually if you are unable to receive the radio broadcast. The WS-2315 Weather Center can be used as an alarm clock, sounding an alarm each day precisely at the time you select.
